But, here's the big question not aimed at anyone here:

Does anyone outside of GB or other blogs really listen to untruths propagated on blogs?

Lets hope not. Nuf said already.

No automaker is perfect!

Recalls hit all of them. Sometimes, the recalls are not much, but this one is giving Toyota a big hit at a bad time. This should not give them too much damage. because it is evident that they will stay a world automaker.

Ford has at least once modified the firmware that runs SYNC by having the owners download a file onto a USB thumb drive and sticking the thumb drive into the USB slot.

It's sweeps month. Therefore, the MSM needs something sensational to talk about.

Ford has a recall or Government Motors has a recall, it just doesn't get the same attention.

>all i have to say is i am glad i don't own a toyota!

I've got a Scion tC (made by Toyota). No recalls.

First car that I ever got that held together good was a Toyota and so far they have not disappointed.

With an asterisk and mice type. Besides, ninety days out is hardly a proof of long term durability.

Honda and Toyota have enough of an American presence that if they chained the gates shut and went back to Japan you wouldn't be complaining about the recession. You'd be complaining about the depression instead.

I'm beginning to think they aren't ignoring the problem, they can't consistently repeat or isolate the problem. Being a state of the art vehicle, computers don't work well in all environments. Tough spot to be in... If this is true and it's software, the whole auto industry better watch out.

They've squandered their reputation for quality. Time for US auto makers to take advantage of this opportunity.

Government Motors is trying to. Bring in a Toyota or a Lexus and they'll give you an extra $1000 rebate. Of course, with GM, it's funny money raised by taxing Toyota owners.

Toyota quality is "LEGENDARY". Hmmm, Legends are mythical, Tend to be blown out of proportion. Yep, that's what has happened here.

Toyota's quality is just a Legend, and not real. Ford says they have Quality which can't be beat by Toyota. Hmmmm, not sure I would boast about being better than Toyota right now. I would think some soap box derby cars would qualify as better quality. "Go Toyota, and while you're leaving, take Honda back to Japan too!"

Give us a break.

Pearl Harbor was close to 70 years ago. And don't forget Hiroshima and Nagasaki. IMHO, Japan was well repaid.

>Buy from an American company,Ford.

The major thing American about Ford is the location of the headquarters.

And, besides, Ford profited selling stuff to both sides during the WWII you seem to be so obsessed with.

>Much better vehicles than toyota.

I want to see long-term data before making a long-term investment.

And, besides, Ford's recalling their MEXICAN MADE HYBRIDS.

This seems to be a pretty simple issue of reprogramming the crossover point between regenerative and friction brakes. Ford is having the same basic issue on their Fusion hybrid.

Toyota probably figured it was the right time to come clean on all this stuff. No point dealing with the aftermath of the gas pedal issue, gaining some public relations traction and then once you seem to have a handle on everything - BAM, another recall. Better to just pour more bad news onto the already bad news, b/c you can't get any lower right now.

A recall, I understand, but it appears that this and the gas pedal issue actually go back a few years and there's been some attempt to obfuscate and cover up how bad these problems have been, and that's shameful.

Anytime I hear of an auto recall, I think of Fight Club. ;)

Toyota needs to listen to customers more, resolve issues & get it done....more like some other car co's. It's nice that Toyoda is now stepping up in Japanese tradition but doesn't mean much over here, as long as someone in charge is handling issues. Nicer to know if any steps to prevent it in the future is being made....& none seems to have been made.

Also, did not know Prius had 2 other recalls around 2005....that was kept very quiet & until now never brought up by media that I saw.
