"We must be the only ones thinking about stopping the use of oil."
Please pay attention Yonkers!
Brazil is self-sufficient on bio-mass (much to the chagrin of environmentalist who would rather they NOT cut down rain forest to do it). And Iceland plans to by 100% Hydrogen in 10 years. These are but a few examples of how stifled US innovation is because of the stalemate over oil vs NOT oil.

"throw all incumbents out of office."
Yep! Because when it comes to making decisions and being taken seriously in the international community, we need ROOKIES!!
What say we just throw out the ones that can't think for themselves. But I guess that would pretty much eliminate the right side of the aisle, wouldn't it?
Doesn't it piss you off that we're paying for all those Senitors and Representatives that only have ONE thought between them?

Actually, it is popular with the followers of half term sara, radio/tv comedians, and big oil companies.

This would not be an opinion piece editorial now, would it?
Before the 2008 election we had a bunch of scare hype about China drilling 50 miles off the coast of Florida. There were claims that the Chinese oil rigs could be seen from the beach - quite a feat, as they would need to be over 1,500 feet tall for the very top foot to be seen, due to the curvature of the earth. There were claims that "you can read the Chinese writing" on those oil rigs.
Well, all that hype seems to have immediately evaporated right after the 2008 election. The rigs seem to have mysteriously evaporated too.
I will believe that the Russians are drilling in Cuba when our government agencies tell me that they have proof - proof at least as good as for the WMDs in Iraq.
By the way - both China and Russia are communist pinko left wing, which makes them tree hugging anti-drilling enviro-wacos, correct?

=> Just another example of how out of touch Obama and His crew are. <=
Actually just another example of how out of touch most of the "gimme my 20 points but I won't break a sweat on the issues" posters here are.
Number one, "Obama and his crew" don't own Cuba and have no rights to say who drills. Number two, drilling is a commercial enterprise, undertaken as an investment by corporations. Investment is a gamble that has to pay off to pay off. Oil companies right now are sitting on thousands of acres of available land --here-- that they're not drilling for business reasons. Nothing else is stopping them. (See Virginia52 below)
Number three, for these drones: => JUST START DRILLING HERE! NOW!! WE need to be drilling now Drill here and drill NOW! <=
We already DO "drill here". Wé've only been doing it for 151 years, so I could see how it might have slipped by.
Number four, as previously mentioned, this "article" is really an editorial, and its title was changed to hoodwink the gullible. And to an alarming extent, it worked.
Always look up to see where the puppet strings are coming from.

Oil companies have bought leases in Alaska for years and they HAVE NOT acted upon them. In fact, the State of Alaska went to court and sued an oil company because they had the lease for over 30 years and did absolutely nothing. This had nothing to do with President Bush or President Obama. You can not blame everything on whoever is the President. Our oil companies do business in other countries all of the time.

WOW Humble, where to begin!?!
Well first off, according to Fox News, the White House is occupied by the "Intellectual Elite", not the "very stupid". Please consult your "What Would Rush Say" bracelet before posting next time.
No drilling? What about the record setting leases just auctioned off yesterday?
No green jobs? No jobs at all? What about the grants for wind, solar and advanced battery technology? What about the jobs bill signed into law this week?
"Obamacare" - I think will be a GREAT tribute to our President once you discover that chemotherapy will not only cure your cancer, but will not leave you impoverished doing so.
As for public sentiment towards "Obamacare" (Man, I like that name!) real world polls (i.e. not the fake polls sighted by Fox News) show a close split. Those polls also show that people blame Republicans for shutting down Congress. Feel free to dismiss my polls as I have yours.

Obviously, keeping the title intact would have given away the slant and exposed it as opinion rather than news. He knows most people don't bother to click in to the article. This way you get to rewrite the news to fit your own agenda, from the comfort of your living room.

In the 60ies I bought stock in a company (Siboney Carribean) who had received drilling rights in what was then called the Isle of Pines. The story at that time was that that area of the gulf between the island and the southern coast of Cuba was another Lake Miracaibo (Venzuela). Castro took over before any drilling was done and I suspect the Russians have now taken over that area for exploration.

What will "Drill Here, Drill Now" do other than make a few OUTRAGIOUSLY RICH and make them INSANELY RICH? It's a misconception that domestically produced oil stays in the US. A misconception that the American Petroleum Institute is none to quick to dispel.
Here is where US oil exports (yes, EXPORTS) go:

Time for the US to bury the hatchet with Cuba. The Cuban crisis was over 40 years ago and Castro is immobilized. Russia shouldn't be drilling there, we should be, assuming there is oil there.

I can understand why Anadarko bid so much, Cake. There is a lot of money to be made drilling for American oil and selling it to Mexico.

Cuba can do anything they want in their territorial waters. My concern is with Russians drilling in our neighborhood, they may drill into our oil fields. According to what I've read, drilling into oil fields can be accomplished by drilling sideways, at an angle or tap into oil pools horizontally. We probably should start drilling to extract what petroleum we can and show our flag.

Give it up Guys, no one on this sight seems able to read.
Anadarko Bid Tops U.S. Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale
Businessweek -- Anadarko Petroleum Corp. and Mariner Energy Inc. submitted the largest single bid in an auction for oil and natural-gas drilling rights in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, offering $52.6 million, according to the Minerals Management Service.
Results of the auction for 468 tracts covering 2.4 million acres off of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, were announced today by the agency, part of the U.S. Interior Department. The government said there were 642 total bids, with high bids amounting to $949 million.
Participation was up 10 percent from last year, to 77 companies from the 70 that took part in the 2009 lease sale for the central gulf region, said Lars Herbst, Gulf of Mexico regional director for the agency.

Sloggopyle,
You are WRONG! Those spreading this fear and mis-information and Neo-Con "Red Meat" are not ignorant. They know exactly what they are doing. They take their own tactics and put Obama's name if front of it and dangle it out there like Pavlov's dinner bell. They rely on the fact that none of their fan base will check their facts and challenge them on it. They further demonize their detractors by calling them the "intellectual elite". Yea, we need STUPID in leadership positions right now! "AHH! AHH! Vote for me! I'm NOT intellectual at all!"
Other than that though, you pretty much nailed it!

I support the United States attempting to shift to alternative fuels...but we still need oil. Why can't we work with both fuels and slowly work away from oil?
